PRIORITY ONE:
CHILDREN WELL-BEING
According to a recent study in JAMA Pediatrics, nearly one in six school-aged children in the U.S. have a treatable mental health disorder. And nearly half of those with these disorders did not receive treatment or counseling.
Also, the challenges associated with social distancing and a global pandemic are likely to cause anxiety and mild depression for students who have not previously faced these challenges.
Pay attention: children may not recognize changes in themselves, and adults should encourage children to find support and help, and share that there is no stigma or shame in doing so. Our team is also available to help connect you with counseling services and more.
PRIORITY TWO:
STAYING CONNECTED
The pandemic has been stressful and difficult for many of us, and understandably when we finally have a quiet moment all we want to do is relax and not be disturbed. However, by maintaining active communication with our school–both sharing and receiving information–you are able to help the school make decisions that best fit your needs.
But the most important reason for parents and guardians to stay in touch with us is that it allows your child to see the importance of school and the importance of their success have not changed one bit while schools are closed. When you care, they care.

LEARNING
Plan to attack the most important learning standards for each grade and content area, focusing our teaching what scholars absolutely need to know for this grade
Invite experts of distance learning to coach our teachers to be even more effective at distance teaching
Prepare to successfully administer the state test remotely
LISTENING
Continue to get authentic insight from families beyond surveys, in events such as Cafecito, “OA Listens”, and individual meetings or phone calls
Collect feedback from teachers and scholars and share with everyone how their voices have directly contributed to our planning
PLANNING
Keep preparing for re-entry should new demands are made by the city or state
Design special programs such as summer learning camps, after school support, etc. to mitigate learning loss
